As Chairperson of the IIA, Karnataka Chapter, initiated a Project to map Ward No.112, in Bangalore, understand ward level urban issues identified a governance, public spaces, public buildings, and heritage buildings in the ward, slums and housing for the poor, hawkers, social infrastructure, land use, open spaces including nala, transportation and mobility, energy (source, supply and energy efficiency), water source (supply and sanitation) waste management etc. The intent is to design a vision for the ward with consultation with the public, through design intervention as architects. The initiative is in progress.

She  had conducted a student workshop in PDA College of Engineering, Gulburga, on “Sustaining Villages “ after a study of the existing village structure, architecture, livelihood, culture, habits and aspirations. The workshop was a 2-day workshop in August 2016.

She is presently collaborating with the local resident’s association, to improve the sanitation and general hygiene of a slum in her  locality where her house staff reside. As a people’s representative in a ward in Bangalore (Jeevan Bhimanagar Ward) over- saw the local polling at the ISRO Polling Booth, during our recent National Elections, 2014.

She have planned, designed and had sanctioned from the local authorities, a charitable hospital – Annaswamy Mudaliar General Hospital to provide health-care facilities to the poorer sections of society at nominal costs.

A very keen interest in community building. Have collaborated with the MUDA (Mysore Urban Development Authority) and designed a community living space for the Economically weaker sections in Mysore, India. The design laid special emphasis on community spaces, water and sanitation, lifestyles of the people it housed. 

She is on the core technical committee of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for formulating the rating system of Green Interiors, the IGBC Green Interiors Rating System, which was launched in Nov-2015 at the Green Building Congress, Ahmedabad. Member of the Awards Committee of the IIID for the term 2012-2014, involved in conducting the IIID- Anchor, and IIID- Godrej innovation awards. Also the Convener for the IGBC-IIID Conference on Green Interiors, the first conference conducted by IGBC on interiors, on the 29,30, May 2014, at the ITC Grand Central, Parel, Mumbai. The theme was - Health, Comfort and Sustainably Built Indoors.

Leena Kumar designed and implemented a student design competition as Chairperson, IIID, Bangalore Chapter, 2011, for the designing of the interior spaces of two Metro Stations in Bangalore - The Mahatma Gandhi and the Swami Vivekananda Metro Stations. The intent of the competition and the design brief was to convey to the large population of commuting citizens, the life, philosophy and contribution of these two national figures, in the few minutes of time they spend walking through the stations.

    Awards 1) Ninth short listed entries from a total of 427 entries received from all over the globe for the Global Design Competition for the National War Memorial proposed along the Rajpath Marg, New Delhi, called for by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India in December 2016.Design comprised six hexagons symbolizing the cosmos and eternity through its shapes of the Mandala, Lotus, Chakravyuha, Flower of Life, Spiral and Shell. 2) Short -listed in the Nerolac 2017 National Competition-“Breathing City” for Architectural design product that represents the city. 3) Runner-up award for design excellence in the Retail category at WADE India 2017 (Woman architects and Designers of India) 4) Won the Glitz Design Honour Award 2018 for creative excellence in Retail Interior.
