Architect Nisha Mathew Ghosh’s architecture practice situates itself within the larger practice of Mathew and Ghosh Architects, India which she co-founded with husband Soumitro Ghosh in 1996. Have worked in the space of Architecture, Design, Research and Social Work (ideation and project delineations) for 25 years, but her core focus is People and the ability to drive stewardship of the environment and sustainability in Indian urban areas. Her goals are to further this passion using my natural core areas of Design and conceptual idea-based thinking to allow the creation of an Eco-system of Ideas for Sustainable solutions in one of India’s fastest growing future Mega-cities namely Bangalore- currently saddled with a looming future-water-crisis and a corrupt and dysfunctional Govt machinery. Her reflective and seemingly curatorial practice is a confluence of many strands broad ranging across Landscape, Urban readings and strategy, Architecture, and Product Design (which includes among others, the experimentation with, and commitment to sustainable upcycled textiles). Underlying these multiple strands is a commitment to IDEAS especially those at the threshold of urban settlements and ecology, critically commenting via architecture on WATER, AIR, LIGHT, ENERGY and EARTH&Brownfield. Her built works (in collaboration with Soumitro Ghosh) include the recent private house called House of Stories which enables a mapping of diurnal light trajectories via the spatial envelope, and the seminal competition entry for the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Memorial which was based on the cleaning of the brownfield. She is recently selected to design and curate the India Pavilion at the London Design Biennale 2020.
