Solid Surface Facade

In order to maintain the rural character of the location, the assignment came with strict regulations limiting the volume allowed above the ground level. With the volume limited, Waterstudio decided to make a floor under ground level, providing extra surface.

Project- Villa New Water, Westland

Designed by - Ar. Koen Olthuis, Waterstudio.NL, Netherlands

Façade- DuPont™Corian®

In order to maintain the rural character of the location, the assignment came with strict regulations limiting the volume allowed above the ground level. With the volume limited, Waterstudio decided to make a floor under ground level, providing extra surface within the limited dimensions of the building-envelope. The volume was taken up as a white frame outlining large surfaces of glass, making the whole villa rather transparent. The white frame curling along the facade closes off both ends of the house. In the middle the frame rises to mark the entrance. The entire frame is created with DuPont™Corian® in order to provide minimalism in both style and maintenance.

Facade Design Pattern for Residential Houses

As Olthuis says, “Building at a waterfront means special building requirements and DuPont™Corian® is the ideal solution for these difficult conditions. After a time, stucco work always becomes unsightly, but this product is completely impervious to moisture and the effects of weather. Decades from now, this façade will still look as good as it did on the day it was made. It is practical and efficient, even if the building is not on the waterfront.”
