Mangalore roofing tiles explored for colourful flooring

When we started working on the interiors of the residence, we were exploring new and innovative ideas for flooring. Mangalore tiles caught our attention.

Saili explained, “When we started working on the interiors of the residence, we were exploring new and innovative ideas for flooring. Mangalore tiles caught our attention. Traditionally used for roofing, it occurred to us that with some modulations to the size of the tile, we could creatively use the same piece of tile in different permutations & combinations, with a vast variety of color infills, to form an infinite number of design patterns! Stacking them against each other also gave them strength. This is how we eventually achieved a very uniquely designed floor along with setting a color theme for each room, which we later extended to the soft furnishings as well! For indoors, we limited the usage and provided a protective coat of sealer, to prevent any kind of seepage into the floor.”
