Marari Pearl Resort Allepey-Interior Designers in Kerala

Challenges: The most challenging aspect was to balance the design with construction, time and cost within a reasonable budget. The architects were Inspiration, and it was their cost-effective design and their strength to work in thatch that helped us to collaborate with them and arrive at the final product.

Materials: Thatch for the roof, bamboo, brick and rough un-plastered walls are the core natural materials used that gives a very natural feel to the space. The cottages are themed based on nature – pearl, ocean and greenery. Local elements like Thatch were used in the larger roof of the restaurant and sit-out space in the rooms. Coconut wood has been used for panelling in the bar. Water hyacinth became the décor in the rooms and replaced flowers. It was to find a balance between finished dolled up interiors and simple elegant spaces that are classy, yet reminiscent of the old world charm.

Lighting: Traditional lanterns have replaced ceiling lights at the entrance of all cottages. Hanging lights in mother of pearl and metallic lamps provide focus lighting.
The idea was to have subtle lighting that doesn’t strain the eye.
