Revisiting and reviving ancient Russian techniques in a modern way. This is the idea of Ivan Basov’s Basmaconcept, a collection of metal belts made in Basma technique and characterized by a Vyaz pattern, a distinctive type of Cyrillic ornate lettering. The designer’s aim was to work up a design for a “universal” chair, based on the idea that when we want to relax, (almost) all of us take up the same position.
The design has got originally published in the Special Milan Issue of Surfaces Reporter Magazine. It is part of the 100 Designs from across the world captured at Milan Design Week 2019.

We invite designers from around the world to share their creations with us at press@surfacesreporter.com
