
East Delhi is all set for a modern and futuristic hub that will cater to the residential, commercial and cultural needs of its residents. With the central government giving its go ahead to the 'Integrated Development of East Delhi Hub' project, the Delhi Development Authority has entrusted the work of this project to NBCC.

"As per the revised MoU, the DDA has entrusted the 'Integrated Development Work of East Delhi Hub, Karkardooma, New Delhi based on Transit-Oriented-Development norms wherein NBCC will work as project planning, designing and executing agency," NBCC said in a regulatory filing. Accordingly NBCC's work will include master planning of the entire project and construction of 1,600 residential units, external amenities, infrastructure services and other developmental works. The total estimated cost of the development of Phase-I of this project is approximately Rs 1,393 crore. NBCC will be developing 30 acres of land at Karkardooma, Delhi.
According to Gautam Gambhir, MP of East Delhi, the project includes a massive central green lung, concourse-level connectivity of metro with commercial buildings and towers, universal barrier-free access in public areas, environmental/ green building features like skywalk connectivity among others. It will also have schools, dispensaries, libraries, community halls, and multipurpose halls with provisions for indoor games, creches and other civic amenities.

The estimated cost of the entire project, spread over 60 acres, is Rs 5,000 crore and will have 30 residential and commercial towers, the tallest among them 50 storeys, coming around the pink and blue corridors. According to Dikshu Kukreja, principal architect and urban designer at C P Kukreja Architects, the project will have green area spread over 10 acres along with extensive use of vertical and terrace gardens. The facade will have 2-3 layers of jaali in different patterns to trap dust and create standing waves that damp outside noise.
DDA has also selected areas near Mayur Vihar Extension, Dwarka sector 21, Rohini sector 18, Mukundpur, Sarojini Nagar, and INA metro for TOD intervention.
