In tier II cities like Bhubaneswar, high-end retail and significance of commodities basically reflects the derivatives of gendered consumption pattern. The designer has tried to capture this nexus of femininity and consumption profile in the volume of the retail spaces proposed for esplanade. To portray this nexus, metaphorically, a piece of shawl with indigenous applique tessellation drapes around the lower mass of the building, flows inside-out leaving clues at every possible corner and thus heightens the possibilities of glocal presence. Functionally, the wrap forms the welcoming canopy and the extent accentuates the face of the retail and office at human level to this upmarket mixed use development.
