Imagine negotiating your life without any access to a toilet. That is the condition in which India's 70 million slum dwellers live. For the women, this means a 'no food, no water' policy for the entire day, every day. This causes chronic dehydration, multiple diseases and infections, and a serious impediment to long-term thinking. It's a vicious cycle that Swapnil identified before the advent of the Swacch Bharat Mission. He also recognised that simply constructing toilets will not change deep behaviour patterns.
