Tiles and Marbles: Which One Takes It All?

Tiles and Marbles
Tiles and marbles are both very popular and therefore, it’s hard to differentiate between them when it comes to choosing one for your houses. But, then how does one choose?

You see, before finding all the differences between marble and tiles, there are many parameters based on which we should really try to differentiate them both. For your help, we at Surfaces Reporter (SR) have just the right parameters of advice. Read on to learn more: -

Composition:

Floor tile is made from silicates or clay fired at high temperatures and marble is basically a natural stone made from limestone’s metaphoric crystallization that results in the conversion of calcium carbonate into calcite crystals.

Stain Proof:

Stain is also one of a parameter to differentiate both marble and tiles. Marble tends to get stained easily and you need to maintain them regularly. But tiles do not stain as easy as marble, making them easier to maintain.

Classification:

Marble is available in many shades and colours and its colour is derived from the geographical process where the marble is obtained from. On the other hand, tiles are also available in many forms such as terra cotta, quarry tiles, glass, and even porcelain. They can be used as both floor and wall tiles.

Finishing:

Polished Marble is available with a glossy finish, tumbled or honed and tiles are available in both glazed and unglazed varieties. The pattern screen printed on the surface of tile gives it a natural look.

Durability:

Marble has great strength. Hence it is a good choice for your flooring with a long life span. To maintain the marble for years, we just need to polish it from time to time and clean it regularly. It is highly durable, although it might become yellowish with time. On the other hand, tiles have to be handled carefully because they can be break or chip easily. Tiles look shiny and serve you well with their aesthetic durability within the minimal time period. But if it gets broken then they need to be completely changed.

Care and maintenance:

If you want an aesthetic floor that matches with your surroundings then must clean your floor regularly. Tiles are waterproof; hence they can be wiped clean with water and a soft cloth. Tiles do not get stained easily so they do not need everyday maintenance to last longer. Marble is a porous stone and it absorbs water or abrasion by acids or alkali, hence it needs utmost care. For better results, clean your marble flooring with lukewarm water. For stain removal, you can add a mild detergent and mix it with water while cleaning your marble floors. Mable also needs to get polish after a certain time duration.

Variations:

During the production, tiles colour and appearance are carefully controlled and this results in an end-product that comes with slightly minor variations between batches. As marble is a natural stone, all their slabs are processed uneven or different and you can spot differences between the slabs of the same lot. That is the reason marble is less consistent according to tiles.

Eco-Friendly:

Marble is not an eco-friendly option as it is a non-renewable product and extracting it requires energy-intensive processes. The impact these processes has on the environment is irreversible. Tiles are better than marble because they can be recycled, they are non-toxic and they are manufactured using safe processes.

Therefore, to wrap it up, choose one of the two products based on your needs. Check for yourself which material fulfils the loops holes for your estate. Maybe tile can do the wonders that marble lacks or marble can bring in the natural beauty that your home requires.
