Tucked amidst the idyllic forest on the ‘Road to Misery’ in Kennebunkport, Maine, this artist's hand-sculpted dome home is currently for sale through Coldwell Banker for $690,000. Constructed in 2003 by sculptor Daphne Pulsifer as an eco-haven, this earthen home celebrates both a rustic lifestyle with a progressive turn toward green living. The off-grid home, measuring 1,477 square feet of calm new England woods and fenced-in pasture, is a three-bedroom structure that combines traditional construction techniques with advanced technology. The interesting characteristic of this building is its solar-powered photovoltaic electrical system. Read more about the project below at SURFACES REPORTER (SR):

What Does It Comprise?

The dome house is made out of rebar, cement, blown-foam insulation, and a covering, a unique and uncommon style. It generates its electricity through a seven-panel solar system. Further, there is also a 1,000-gallon propane gas tank in the basement to keep pipes from freezing, a gas stovetop, an on-demand hot water system, and a Kohler generator, the seller said. As they don't own the tank, it won't transfer with the property.

Tactile and Inviting Interiors

From the outside, the house looks closed-off and oppressive but the interior is warm, inviting, and flooded with light.
