Located in the park of louver-lens in France, Shiver House is a kinetic “animal-like” installation created by design studio NEON. The structure is designed using 1100 kinetic polycarbonate counter-weighted shingles that rotate up and down in response to the weather. The kinetic cabin is designed as an “exploration into the idea that Architecture can be used as a means to create a closer emotional link between its inhabitants and the natural world it sits within.” Concurrently, the project showcases how the ever-changing surrounding environment has a similar impact on the structure.
Feather-Like Polycarbonate Shingles Transform As Per Environment
The transformative polycarbonate counter-weighted shingles attached to the structure of the project demonstrates the changing environment and let the visitor live in the present moment by removing anxiety. It allows the visitor to get in connection with external forces that are not only associated with the cabin but the people as well.

“The project explores the idea that Architecture can be made to seem “alive” with the intention that this will engender a deeper and longer lasting emotional relationship between people and the structures we inhabit, says the firm.

Once you are inside the structure, you can observe the environment through its moving façade as the shingles modulate the internal light levels and the outside view.
The project-Shiver House V2- builds on the success of previous iterations of the project installed in Finland. The new version will be used and sit within the park of louver-lens for a longer time period.
