The Union government unveiled two flagship initiatives – the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Intelligent Internet of Things (IIoT) Sensors and the first Graphene center in India, the 'India Innovation Centre for Graphene (IICG),' located at Maker Village Kochi. A collaborative effort by MeitY, the Union Government, and the Government of Kerala, this unique facility aims to propel the development of sensors within the domain of Intelligent IoT systems. Digital University Kerala (formerly IIITMK) and the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology, Thrissur, join as technical partners in the establishment of these cutting-edge centers at Makers Village Kochi. These collaborations lay the foundation for a comprehensive facility encompassing research and development, incubation, innovation, skilling, capacity building, testing, and certification.
S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, leads the launch of these important programs. He highlights the crucial role of IIoT sensors and graphene technologies, emphasizing their importance in driving digital changes and economic progress. Krishnan explains that the main goal of setting up these creative centers is to build a whole environment for startup companies working on IoT sensors, graphene, and 2D materials.
