Vicente Nomdedeu, President of The Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturer's Association (ASCER), highlighted Spain's ceramic sector's tenacity and provided insights into 2023 production, sales, and exports figures. Spain leads production in the EU with over $432 million in domestic sales and exports to 189 countries worldwide, totaling more than $3.5 billion.
Several trends were highlighted during the event:
Primal Instinct: Spanish companies showcased advancements in production methods, including high-definition and multi-step printing systems, resulting in collections with intricate wood grain patterns, hyper-realistic marble veining, natural stone textures, and water movement.
Iridescent Influx: Novel printing methods create metallic and prismic overlays, offering a shimmering effect on tiles, providing a distinct visual experience.
KERABEN, Idyllic
Feeling Blue: There's a shift towards shades of blue in ceramic colorways, from deep navy to warm teal, evoking calm and tranquil atmospheres.
CERÁMICA MAYOR, Tropic
Lightly Glazed: Spanish manufacturers are experimenting with selective glazing styles, applying glazes or glues to specific areas of tiles to create kinetic interplays of light, shadow, and depth.
Brick-by-Brick: Subway tiles are reimagined with distressed brick-like veneers, replicating the architectural appeal of traditional bricks.
NATUCER, Cotto Brick
Curved surfaces with deep grooves and structured fluting are inspired by natural movements, adding visual intrigue and enhancing the overall optics and acoustics of spaces.
