Prerana Agarwal Saxena, Ceo & Founder, Theme Weavers Designs, tells SURFACES REPORTER (SR) how lights can be a crucial first step in designing a wedding venue:
Need for lights
The lure of lavish tradition and celebratory decisions made at a wedding for the start of a new life is exhausting yet exciting work. Lighting and decor are two of the most essential decisions taken in a wedding. The former will dictate the quality of the pictures taken, and the latter will dominate the aesthetic of the wedding. The right decor and lighting choice becomes crucial when the photographer captures moments suspended in time for the couple to cherish forever.
Whether the theme of your wedding entails a vintage vibe or a more relaxed boho-chic outdoor extravaganza, lighting amplifies the decor by leaps & bounds. There are various methods that create a glowing backdrop for everyone to admire. The exclusivity offered to the venue by the glittering lighting decor has the impetus to take the guests’ breath away.

How to make the right choice for different functions
There is a myriad of lighting requirements when it comes to weddings. While natural light always offers the best aesthetics for any event, most of the wedding functions such as sangeet, reception, or cocktail party are held at night. This makes one need vastly different lighting designs to be done in accordance with the occasion and the time of the day. However, evening lights are more customizable and controllable, so we can decide what the vibe of the event will be. The cautious transformational shifting of natural and artificial lighting from day to night can result in an awe-inspiring ambiance.
A cocktail night can be made vibrant and awash in bright colors like blue, purple, and red lights that make for a gorgeous background for Instagram-worthy photographs. A neon-lit tunnel, reminiscent of a modified red-carpet event can be used to lead the guests to the event. Such detailed touches in the lighting and the decor niche fabricate some appreciative photo-op opportunities for the guests.

A traditional mehandi function can be regionally inspired by a theme of boho-chic that incorporates bright colors like fuchsia, marigold orange, and pista green, by the poolside. Since mehandi functions occur during the daytime, minimal artificial lighting is used, and there is a heavy dependence on natural sunlight.
The sangeet marks a joyous celebration of the union of two families and TWD delivers a night full of majestic radiance for the ceremony. For one instance, we went for a retro theme coupled with a vintage theme inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s American classic - The Great Gatsby for one of our weddings. Beautiful night lighting was put into practice here as the function was characterized by twinkling lights and red roses for a dramatic touch. The stage was fabricated to showcase the retro vibe using extraordinary proportions of red roses and Edison bulbs.

When talking about the penultimate event of the Great Indian Wedding, bigger is always better. Opt for opulent themes and tones. Therefore, for one such wedding, we chose a regal color palette of gold and blue. A wedding gains further wonder when a particular theme inspired by a tourist destination is followed. If the wedding is located at a Palace, the seating area for after the wedding can be designed to emulate a parlor from a castle, with plush sofa sets and well-lit lamps on the wall.
The week leading to the wedding while being enjoyable also proves to be stressful for the bride, the groom, and the wedding planners involved. While the mehndi, sangeet, haldi, and the reception is a time for the bride and the groom to create lifelong memories, the responsibility of everything unraveling without a hitch lies upon the shoulders of the wedding planners. The importance of both decor and lighting cannot be overemphasized, as it can make or break the wedding.
