Modern and bright define the interiors of Mumbai’s newly opened apparel store Fancy Pants. Staying true to the brand’s slogan – Be Fierce Be Fancy – the store celebrates the ideology of the label that is tailored specially for women. Designed by design firm Quirk Studio, the retail space embodies shades of cherry blossom hues with subtle tones of white as it draws inspiration from the Japanese botanicals.
Quirk Studio had earlier designed the brand’s first store which was an appointment-only one in Mumbai’s Juhu. A simple brief asking to illustrate the growth of the brand over the past three years where women across all ages would feel encouraged and inspired to visit the store, worked as a blueprint for interior designers Disha Bhavsar and Shivani Ajmera. The duo decided to reflect the character of the brand through its chic, feminine and vibrant interiors.
An LED signage highlighting the brand’s tagline welcomes customers into the store. Visual stimulation is created in juxtaposition with products on display that form the focal point of the store. A combination of the brand’s colour dominates the interiors with hot pink in contrast to emerald green. The bold pops of colour bring a stark contrast to the entire space with effortless blacks and whites in the form of stripes. To eliminate a colour muddle, the designers picked the colour scheme in such a way that it visually extends to the organically designed furniture design with curves and bold textures. The subtle highlight of curves in its furniture design is inspired by Fancy Pants’ ideology of celebrating curves.
The core value of Fancy Pants is minutely introduced in its design philosophy through various elements. The dynamic, contrasting combination of colour tones, along with the emphasis on the curved design details, perfectly augments the drama within the store, making it a visually inviting, spatial experience.
Subtle terrazzo-style flooring complements the vibrant interiors of the 300 sqft store. The high ceiling helps to create adequate volume which is accentuated by the baby pink, wall panelling on either side of the store. A touch of panache is added through the brass-finished racks and tables that blend sophistication with a modern contemporary appeal. The brand’s accessories reside within the pull-out drawers of the bespoke table that sits in the middle of the store. A black countertop accentuates the central table. The classical arches adorning the entire store bring out an artistic appeal, reminiscent of the shopping arcade. Pop of pink is carried forward in the drapes of the two vibrant dressing rooms that encompass vivid hues of hot pink, baby pink and emerald green.
To offer optimal illumination and uplift the shopping experience, track lights and recessed downlights run across the store’s ceiling. Furthermore, to enhance visual stimulation, a dummy vending machine is installed in the store which also offers a leisurely experience for the user.
