G-20 Summit: Delhi will be adorned with over 10 lakh exotic potted plants

Since India will host the G-20 summit next year, the forest department has announced that the capital city- Delhi- will be decked with more than 10 lakh exotic potted plants. Read SURFACES REPORTER (SR)’ complete report below:

The government has taken several initiatives to spruce up the national capital, including cleanliness, upgradation of the road infrastructure, and beautification of roads and monuments. Besides, the horticulture wings of the central and, Delhi government departments, including the Delhi Development Department, New Delhi Municipal Council, Public Works Department and Municipal Corporation of Delhi, have been asked to decorate public spaces, roundabouts, major intersections, flyovers and vertical greens in the city with exotic flowering plants.

According to the officials, varied species of exotic plants will be used for the ornamentation of Delhi. “The locations and targets for each department will be finalized by April next year.” 

The main venue of the G20 Summit is Delhi- Indira Gandhi International Airport and Lutyens Delhi, India Gate area and Pragati Maidan.

The tenders have been floated for the procurement of plants, pots and seedlings.“Though there is no specific target yet, we are trying to use as many flowering plants as we can, '' said officials.

It is expected that the entire process of repair and plantation is completed by the end of December 2022 and then the cleaning exercise will be done on a regular basis.

India took over the presidency of the G20 summit on Dec 1 and the first joint summit will be held in September 2023 among members, senior officials, ministers, and civil societies.
