The development of India's first Digital Science Park seeks to shift Kerala into an economy built on knowledge. It is expected that this will result in a transformation of the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for India's first third-generation Digital Science Park, which is intended to facilitate a shift in Kerala towards becoming an economy based on knowledge and an international centre for higher education. Situated in a 13.93 acre site within Technopark Phase IV-Technocity and adjacent to Digital University of Kerala, the Digital Science Park is set to be finished within two years. It aspires to be a multipurpose collaborative space oriented towards digital technology growth. This is possible with its threefold network composed of universities, government and industry working jointly.

The upcoming park will soon be a spot for innovation, providing room for industry and business as well as AI robotics, electronics, smart hardware, sustainable materials and smart startups. The two buildings have a total of two lakh square feet of space with the first totaling 1.5 lakh square feet spread over five floors housing Centres of Excellence, research labs and digital incubators. Within the second building are administrative offices and a digital experience centre. On its opening day it will have an area of 10,000 sq. ft. in Technopark Phase-IV known as Kabani.

The Prime Minister noted that physical and digital connections are crucial for reaching the 'Ek Bharat, Sresht Bharat' goal of national progression. The Digital Science Park, to be developed at Technopark Phase IV-Technocity at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore, will contribute significantly to the Digital India mission which has gained worldwide recognition.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan later tweeted: "Delighted to announce Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi inaugurated our nation's inaugural 3rd generation Digital Science Park in Kerala today. The project is funded by GoK with Rs 200 Cr and the rest from industry associates."

Vijayan recently spoke at the Central Stadium praising the government's effort in turning Kerala into a knowledge-based society through innovative progress. It was here that he highlighted the fact that Kerala was the first state to put forth such an endeavour, furthermore having established two of India's earliest technoparks and digital universities.

The Digital Science Park is aiming to drive the digital industry, pursue applications and boost entrepreneurship in its early phases. Already partnered with University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh and Oxford University, the Park is also working alongside other universities and technology-based industries around the country.
