By December 2023, it is anticipated that the elevated section of the Metro Phase 1-B extension from SN Junction to Tripunithura will be operational. In order to meet the projected completion date, Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) has completed the installation of I-girder works for the 1.163 km long corridor. The tracks will be ready by September. The full report from SURFACES REPORTER (SR) is provided below:
The Phase I-B extension project had a 20-month timeframe when the contract was awarded in July 2020, and piling construction started in August of that same year. According to the project's DPR, the position will facilitate travel between Ernakulam's eastern and southern sides, resulting in about 40,000 daily passengers.
Up to the terminal station building, the slab construction has been expedited while the concourse section of the station is almost finished. Additionally, electrical and painting projects are ongoing.
The Phase 1-A extension from Petta to SN Junction was put into operation on September 1, 2022, and a further extension from SN Junction to Tripunithura would make it simple for commuters to reach the train station from the future Metro stations. A bus terminal and a 22-meter-wide road under the Metro viaduct will also be included in the transit hub project's final design, according to plans.
