All You Need to Know About Swarved Mahamandir- The Worlds Largest Meditation Center in Varanasi

Nestled in Umaraha, Varanasi, Swarved Mahamandir proudly holds the title of the world's largest meditation center. Recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the temple's grand opening was further graced by the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Designed by the team of Aangan Architects, spanning an expansive 3,00,000 square feet, this temple not only showcases a remarkable seating capacity but also serves as a testament to architectural excellence. In this post, SURFACES REPORTER (SR) delves into the historical backdrop, architectural intricacies, and cultural significance of this monumental temple in Varanasi.

Foundation and Historical Ties

In 2004, Sadguru Acharya Swantantra Dev and Sant Pravar Vigyan Dev laid the foundation of Swarved Mahamandir. During his visit, PM Modi participated in the centenary celebration of Vihangam Yoga, marking the 100th anniversary of the creation of Vihangam Yog Sansthan by Sadguru Sadafal Deoji Maharaj. This is PM Modi's second visit to the place; the first was in December 2021.

Architectural Details

The magnificent seven-floor temple, spanning 3,00,000 square feet, boasts a stunning design with 125-petal lotus domes and an impressive seating capacity of 20,000. Nestled in the Umaraha area, approximately 12 km from Varanasi city center, the temple showcases 3,137 Swarved verses engraved on its Makarana marble.

Surrounding the temple's walls is a decor of pink sandstone, complemented by an exquisite garden featuring medicinal herbs. Swarved Mahamandir's architectural marvel includes teakwood ceilings, intricately carved doors, and an array of 101 fountains. Commencing its construction in 2004, the temple project engaged the expertise of 15 engineers and the dedicated efforts of 600 workers.

Cultural Significance and Spiritual Essence

PM Modi characterized Swarved Mahamandir as a contemporary embodiment of India's social and spiritual prowess. Emphasizing the portrayal of divine teachings from Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, Gita, and Mahabharata on the Mahamandir's walls, he highlighted the temple's cultural significance.

According to its website, the temple aspires to "enlighten humanity with its splendid spiritual aura and envelop the world in a state of tranquil vigilance." The teachings primarily center on Brahma Vidya, empowering spiritual individuals to maintain a state of perfect Zen marked by unwavering constancy in happiness and calm.
