Minimalist Elegance with Statement Accents in a Gurugram Home | Intrigue Designs Studio + Lab

Designed by Nehit Vij and Devyani Gupta of Intrigue Designs Studio + Lab, this Gurugram home for Abhishek and Lakshmi Bhatia combines minimalist design with distinctive details. Artful accents, like hand-painted consoles and personalized screens, add unique character, creating a calm, inviting atmosphere. Designers share more with SURFACES REPORTER (SR). Read on:

Named ‘Gantavya,’ meaning 'destination' in Sanskrit, this 5,000 sq. ft. 5BHK residence on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, serves as a peaceful retreat for a working couple with two children. The design emphasizes practicality and calm, with earthy colors and decorative elements adding vibrancy. Natural light and the morning sun gently bathe the east-facing apartment, where sinuous edges, wooden accents, and strategic wall openings create a distinctive charm.

Thoughtfully Designed Living Space

The entrance foyer flows into the living room, the heart of the home, connecting seamlessly to the balcony. The open-plan design integrates the pooja room and bar at opposite corners.

The harmonious equilibrium between the terracotta-coloured accent wall in the living room and the grey sofa upholstery upholds a contemporary aesthetic. Adorning the bar front is a hand- painted poster of Abhishek and Lakshmi’s beloved movie, ‘Life of Pi’

Marble flooring, neutral walls, and lively accents enhance the modern style, with terracotta and grey tones achieving a harmonious balance. Centrally placed furniture provides an open area for kids to play, maintaining an unrestricted walking passage.

Customized Furniture and Personal Touches

A significant portion of the furniture was custom-made to suit the couple’s preferences, with select pieces curated from various brands. From Delhi-based Vakr Studio, two curvaceous shelves in the dining area, a curved bench, and a brass inlay table with a concrete finish in the adjacent sitting room balance vibrant accents.

Adopting a contemporary aesthetic, the dining area showcases marble flooring, neutral coloured walls, vibrant accents from Vakr Studio, and an elegant wall art.

A hand-painted 'Life of Pi' poster adorns the bar, while personalized privacy screens in the entrance foyer feature city skylines and college memories, adding a unique touch. Considering the family’s passion for wildlife, the entrance foyer console was intricately hand-painted with a jungle scene.

Serene and Vibrant Design with Thoughtful Details

The design vision for this Gurugram residence focused on creating a serene atmosphere with expansive windows, neutral tones accented by vibrant pops of color, and curved edges for natural appeal.

Soft pastel tones were selected for the children’s room, and the design strategy included situating the study table by the window to optimize exposure to natural light

Minor structural changes and a blend of materials and fabrics enhance the space's ethos. The kitchen, featuring off-white cabinetry contrasted with deep red chevron backsplash tiles, connects seamlessly to the dining area, which is subtly demarcated from the living room.

Tailored Elegance in Bedrooms

In the master bedroom, warm-toned veneer contrasts with white walls, enhanced by patterned headboards, side tables, and carpet. Custom furniture meets Abhishek and Lakshmi's specifications.

Warm wood tones and Pastel Colours form a perfect background for the setting of this Master Suite.

The guest bedroom features a pastel green rattan bed and a sky-blue wardrobe with rattan accents, while the kids' room incorporates pastel hues and a study table positioned near the window for natural light.

In the guest bedroom, you will find a pastel green rattan bed paired with a sky-blue wardrobe adorned with rattan details

Functional Luxury in Ensuite Bathrooms

Each ensuite bathroom offers spaciousness with glass partitions separating wet and dry zones. The design features large mirrors, unique accent tiles, and ample storage. Geometric patterns, floral motifs, and varied mirror shapes add visual interest, reflecting the home's blend of functional design and subtle luxury.
