The Las Vegas City Council has approved plans for a 90,000-square-foot Las Vegas Museum of Art (LMVA) and allocated 1.5 acres in Symphony Park for its construction. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Francis Kéré, the 8,361 sqm museum will feature two stories of exhibition space above an open plaza and sculpture park, creating an inclusive space for public and community events. Fundraising is in the quiet phase, with a public campaign forthcoming. Construction is expected to begin by February 2027, potentially generating $191 million in economic activity for Las Vegas. Over 300,000 students from nearby Clark County Schools will benefit from the museum.
Architectural Vision and Future Neighbors
Francis Kéré of Kéré Architecture describes the LVMA’s design as a blend of desert beauty, local building principles, and the collaborative spirit of the museum, aiming to create a space where dreams come to life.
Situated in Symphony Park, the LVMA will join other cultural institutions like The Smith Center and the Discovery Children’s Museum in a 61-acre district that includes over 600 residential units and will soon feature a new Marriott hotel.
The museum will partner with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) for artwork loans, exhibitions, and educational programs, ensuring a high level of operation from the start.
