A Threshold, a Bangalore-based architecture practice, joins a global shortlist of trailblazing architects championing sustainable and low-carbon design reports SURFACES REPORTER (SR)
The Architectural Review has unveiled its top 15 finalists for the AR Emerging Awards 2024, with ‘A Threshold’ a young Indian architecture firm proudly making the list among an elite group of groundbreaking practices from around the world. These finalists are celebrated for their innovative use of sustainable, local materials—such as rammed earth, straw, and cork—while focusing on revitalizing threatened landscapes, preserving architectural heritage, and creating enduring public spaces.

The shortlisted firms, representing a diverse mix of global talent from Belgium, Bahrain, China, Cuba, France, Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Kuwait, Spain, Taiwan, and the UK, are as follows:

Each of these firms will present their pioneering work in London to a distinguished panel that includes past AR Emerging finalist Geir Brendeland, architect and curator Noura Al Sayeh-Holtrop from Bahrain, and architect and educator Adrian Lahoud. The awards ceremony will take place on 14 November at Arup’s offices in London, where the winner will receive a £5,000 prize and a specially crafted trophy by Dutch studio The New Raw. Additionally, a second honoree will be awarded the Peter Davey Prize, named in tribute to the award’s founder and former AR editor, Peter Davey.
