Inspired by the distinctive qualities of natural light experienced in Helsinki and Delhi, ‘Midnight Sun’ is designed to harmonize the living experiences of a family divided between Finland and India. Each space within the residence reflects a unique narrative, capturing the diverse yet interconnected lifestyles of its occupants.
The design contrasts the minimalistic, dark-toned sanctuary of the son’s room in Delhi with the vibrant, well-lit interiors favored by the parents. The son’s space is imbued with warmth and familiarity, featuring soft greys and comforting textures that evoke a sense of home. In contrast, the shared living areas come alive with fresh colors, rich textures, and abundant natural and artificial light, creating a festive ambiance reminiscent of Diwali's joyous spirit. The residence is curated with meticulous attention, where every element tells a story, and every room exudes a sense of belonging. The living room furniture, including the sofa and armchairs, has been reupholstered with new fabric to align seamlessly with the updated design theme.
In the dining room, a striking transformation sees the wooden table refurbished with a top crafted from Indian natural marble sourced from Udaipur, Rajasthan. The table legs were stripped of their polish and treated with a natural matte varnish, enhancing their authentic texture and character. Complementing this update, a set of new chairs was introduced to harmonize with the table's aesthetic. Adding a cultural and artistic touch, a painting depicting seven horses, symbolizing good luck and auspiciousness in Indian tradition, was commissioned from a local Delhi artist.
The kitchen, a cherished space for the homemaker, was meticulously designed to amplify natural light by seamlessly integrating the balcony. Reflecting her preference for white aesthetics, the kitchen features pristine hues paired with a Rainforest Green marble backsplash, adding a striking local flair.
In Bedroom 1, the design achieves a seamless integration of elements, with the flooring pattern echoing the curtain designs, bedsheets, and cushions. Van Gogh’s original prints, sourced from the client’s personal collection, adorn the walls, bringing a harmonious blend of European artistry and Indian sensibilities to the room’s fresh color palette.
The bathroom combines luxurious materials, including a honey-colored onyx vanity and handmade white tiles. Each tile, requiring 10-15 days to produce, exemplifies refined craftsmanship, elevating the bathroom into a sanctuary of elegance.
Bedroom 2 was extended by integrating a section of the balcony. A smart ceiling detail camouflages the beam separating the two areas, while another conceals the height drop, creating a seamless transition and a spacious ambiance.
Bedroom 3, designed for the son living in Helsinki, reflects his preference for warm, cozy interiors reminiscent of his Finnish home. The darker hues in the design provide comfort and familiarity, ensuring he feels at home even in Delhi’s tropical warmth.
