Traditional Elements Infused with Modern Maximalism

A seamless fusion of heritage and contemporary design defines this compact home, reports SURFACES REPORTER (SR).

An inspiring blend of traditional Indian architecture and modern design principles, Dushyanth Residence is situated in North Bangalore on a 1200 sqft site. The project, designed by Naveen G.J, Founder, DeSquare Architects, Bangalore, redefines living in a small space by optimizing spatial efficiency and arranging functions seamlessly across levels. The design concept embraces the essence of green spaces within the building, maximizing every inch of the site. A traditional Indian aesthetic is seamlessly integrated with modern design. Incorporating green spaces softens the exterior and allows the exterior to feel connected to nature.

An earthy colour palette highlights the exterior features of the residence. With its unique blend of traditional elements and contemporary style, the façade captures attention. Within a compact site, the residence's interiors reflect a maximalist aesthetic. A visual connection across floors creates the illusion of space. The layout is an exploration of Indian design principles intertwined with modern functionality, enabling various spaces to seamlessly flow into one another. No rules dictate the material and colour palette, but a cohesive blend of earthy tones and modern finishes dominates the interior. Reinterpreting traditional materials in a contemporary context creates a unique and welcoming atmosphere in the residence.

Architectural details play an important role in determining the character of the home. Indian architectural elements, including intricate woodwork and railing and tile patterns, coexist with modern design elements. This deliberate blending enhances the aesthetic by adding depth and visual interest.

Sustainability is prioritized by incorporating green spaces within the building. This not only contributes to its aesthetic appeal, but also makes it healthier to live in. Energy efficiency is optimized through thoughtful planning and design. Thereby, Dushyanth Residence, situated in the vibrant city of Bangalore, exemplifies the successful fusion of maximalism and traditional Indian architecture within the constraints of a 1200 sqft site, exemplifying a unique and harmonious coexistence of the past and present, offering its occupants a space that is both culturally rich and contemporary.
