Hettich, the German furniture fitting giant and one of the key global players has recently unveiled its plan to make India a key global manufacturing hub strengthening the 'Made in India, Made for the World' approach. A report by SURFACES REPORTER.

India to become the hub for global furniture market

The global furniture market has registered a steady growth over the years. Valued at an estimated USD 22.23 billion in 2025, the market is projected to reach over USD 31.7 billion by 2034. Indian market has a significant share in this growth with its projection of becoming a 6.31 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 9.77% over 2026-2031.

Eyeing this growth, global players including Hettich have intensified their efforts for enhanced local production and export capabilities. Time and again, the brand has asserted the significance of Indian market in its overall expansion strategy. According to the brand's senior management, India has already become its second largest market globally after Germany surpassing China and will soon grab the topmost spot.

According to the brand, this growth is driven by India's expanding middle class and a significant shift from informal carpentry to organized manufacturing. The company sees strong potential in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Regulatory changes are also supporting local investment and production in India.

Hettich's first dedicated undermount drawer runner manufacturing facility

According to a statement by Hettich, the new inaugurated facility within its Indore plant is its first dedicated undermount drawer runner automated manufacturing facility in the country spanning an area of 25,700 sq mt.

The new facility located within Hettich's 103,039 sq. metre Indore facility, is a part of the company's overall investment of approximately ?2,000 crore in the country.

The latest addition will significantly boost the annual capacity of the existing Indore plant which is currently standing at approximately 60 million hinges and expected to further produce around 5 million units of undermount drawer runners annually.

With a slew of premium furniture fittings produced at the Indore Facility including hinges, sliding profiles, aluminium profiles, and Cube Plus systems, the Indore manufacturing facility is one of Hettich's most significant manufacturing locations globally.

“With an overall investment of over Rs 2,000 crore and a continued focus on BIS-certified manufacturing, we are reinforcing our Built to Lead commitment while steadily expanding our Made in India portfolio,” said Andre Eckholt, managing director, Hettich India, SAARC, Middle East & Africa.
