A prototype of Horvath’s design at Salone Satellite during last year's edition of Milan Furniture Fair actually increased the interest of the company.
The designer used birchwood to create this elegant design. She titled the collection ‘Illan’, which means something temporary or fleeting in Hungarian. So, how came the idea for creating this simple yet elegant design? "The idea of the lamp comes from experimentation with models of laser cutting applied to different materials," explained Horvath.

The designer used Precise laser-cutting technology to form equidistant lines through a thin sheet of plywood. "When sheets of paper and wood are cut geometrically, they take on new characteristics, suspended by the force of gravity," she continued.

"The simple concentric cutting motif shapes the wood into a three-dimensional sculptural object that reacts to the slightest movement of the air, while the warm glow of the light creates a relaxing sensation, reflecting on the wooden surface," said Horvath.
Warm-Toned LED lights
A warm glow of LED light sits inside the shade, leaking through the slats of the wooden surface to create a golden, diffused light and gives a relaxing sensation.

When the lamp is hung from above, the wood seems like falling into the lampshade’s unique bowed shape. "The lamp is on the borderline between art and design, balancing functional quality, good looks, and a bit of the magic we need in our everyday life," added the designer.
Illan Pendant Lamp is available in three sizes and can be up to a meter wide. The buyer can hang them up on the ceiling as a single piece or in a group of different sizes.
