The Top of the Rock is planning to create a 'Skylift' viewing platform and 'Rooftop Beacon' at the Top of the 70th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza-the Manhattan landmark- that would offer thrilling rides and 360-degree sweeping views of New York City. The project has received approval from New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. American reality giant Tishman Speyer has made the proposal that will add a ride-like experience known as 'Lunch atop a Skyscraper' experience on the top 69th-floor roof terrace, taking cues from the famous photo of the year 1932 where 11 ironworkers were having lunch on a steel beam during the construction of Rockefeller Center. A rotating beam-like structure will allow the visitors, who are strapped in, to take a ride upward above the 69th floor about 2.7 meters (9 feet) into the air to recreate the scene. SURFACES REPORTER (SR) presents here more interesting details of the project. Take a look:

"We are doubling down on Rockefeller Center as a beacon of New York's bright future," a spokesperson for Tishman Speyer says. "As we reimagine the Top of the Rock experience, our aim is to restore the original historical intent of the observation deck. We look forward to partnering with the Landmarks Preservation Commission as it considers this an important project."
Lunch Atop a Skyscraper
Two major areas will be upgraded: The ticketing entry area, shifted from the lobby to the Top of the Rock, and the building's rooftop.
The skylift will be located on the 70th floor, where a circular glass platform will literally lift people on the Top of the roof, ensuring panoramic views of the city. The "Lunch atop a Skyscraper" experience will allow people to sit and have lunch in the movable beam that will raise and rotate to recreate the famous photo of 1932.

A Kinetic Globe
The 70th floor will also include a rooftop beacon- a kinetic globe that is programmed to transform the arrival of guests.
The red tiles are replaced with mosaic tiles that work with a celestial design, a motif seen throughout the complex.
Sarah Carroll, LPC Commissioner, believes that the new additions to the Top of the Rock, one of the city's most important landmarks, will boost tourism and encourage new businesses.
