Situated in the vicinity of Bengaluru International Airport, Foxconn's plant, supposedly its largest mobile assembly unit in India, is projected to span 300 acres. It is purported that it will generate employment opportunities for up to 50,000 individuals over the next five years.
The proposal for the project received approval from the SHLC, led by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
This proposal of nearly $1 billion (Rs80bn) would see a brand-new manufacturing and assembly plant for electronics established on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The plant may also assemble Apple handsets, some sources mentioned, and may also be utilized to manufacture components for Foxconn's developing electric vehicle sector.
In March 2023, Foxconn chairman Young Liu and a high-level delegation visited Karnataka, where they signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government.
The opening of Apple's supply chain in India will give a boost to the government's push to bring semiconductor manufacturers to the country. Foxconn has partnered with Vedanta Group to set up a wafer fab, an assembly and testing unit, and a display facility in Gujarat.
