Foster + Partners and Arup have been commissioned to design four stations along the California High-Speed Rail (CA HSR)- USA's First High-Speed Rail Stations in California. These initial stations are located in Merced, Fresno, Kings/Tulare, and Bakersfield and will provide service for the first 171 miles of the system's 500-mile route between Los Angeles and San Francisco. For this project, Foster + Partners and Arup have combined their talents to plan, architecturally design, and engineer these four new stations. This set of designs is intended not only to serve as a blueprint for the four stations themselves but also to create a precedent for all future CA HSR station designs. The California High-Speed Rail is currently being built in the Central Valley and is expected to be finished and in service sometime between 2030 and 2033. Foster + Partners are responsible for designing the initial line and it is anticipated that this will be "America's first high-speed rail segment".
Commendable Joint Venture
The collaborative effort between Foster + Partners and Arup is truly noteworthy. Utilizing their expertise in the area, they are coming together to develop four Central Valley stations for California's high-speed rail.
With a pre-established systemwide kit of parts crafted by Foster + Partners, this joint venture is providing both management and design services in the design development phase, with an end goal of approximately thirty months later.
Upon completion, the second phase would involve finalizing design details and completing construction-ready documents leading up to actual construction.
