Kashi is on the brink of a momentous leap in urban transport as Prime Minister Narendra Modi ceremoniously commenced the groundwork of an imaginative ropeway on March 24. This ropeway will mark the first of its kind in India and joins only two other public ropeways in the entire globe. Read SURFACES REPORTER (SR)’s complete report below:
Bartholet, a Swiss company which is working with National Highway Logistics Private Limited, is tasked with constructing it at a height of 50 meters above the city. Travelling between Varanasi Cantt station and Godaulia, are five stations across the route.
Incorporating The Latest In European Design With Exclusive Materials
The ropeway's cabin will be of European design and outfitted with a top-notch ventilation system and comfortable seating. This ensures passengers with disabilities can travel in their wheelchairs. The car's capacity is sufficient enough to hold up to ten individuals, no matter the party size. Pooja Mishra of National Highway Logistics Pvt Ltd.
This ropeway will offer disabled people the convenience of being able to stay in their wheelchairs while taking the ride. Comfortably getting to where they need to go, even if it is up in the sky.
Pooja Mishra stated that the cabin has been designed with passenger convenience in mind and that, come summertime, extra ventilation will be provided in the ropeway.
The windows in the ropeway are designed using an exclusive material to shield them from the intense heat of summer, offering passengers a comfortable interior temperature.
The project director expressed that this initiative is part of the Prime Minister's vision to guarantee Divyangjan can enjoy smooth journeys.
An Innovative Solution To Ease Congestion in Kashi
Kashi's congested roads can benefit from the new transit ropeway, linking the Varanasi Cantt railway station to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Dashashwamedh Ghat.
This system should significantly reduce traffic in the city, with 150 car cabins running each hour and carrying up to 6,000 passengers in both directions. It is designed not only for locals but also for domestic and foreign visitors alike, providing a convenient and accessible way to get around the area.
