This December, the historic Red Fort in Delhi is set to become the canvas for the inaugural India Art, Architecture & Design Biennale (IAADB). Running from December 9th to the 15th, this grand event promises a unique showcase of India's rich artistic and architectural heritage.
A Glimpse into the Past
From intricate doors to majestic temples and antique step wells, the IAADB will present a diverse range of treasures that reflect India's cultural legacy. Delight in the beauty of extravagant textile designs and the historical significance of each exhibit.
A Prelude to Venice Biennale 2024
The Union Culture Ministry views this event as a precursor to India's participation in the prestigious Venice Biennale in 2024, positioning India on the global art and architecture stage.
Thematic Displays in Historic Barracks
IAADB will feature seven carefully curated thematic displays, housed in three British-era barracks situated within the Mughal-era monument's grounds.
These displays aim to encapsulate India's diverse artistic and architectural traditions.
A Cultural Movement in the Making
The ministry envisions institutionalizing this event, with plans to take it to different cities such as Kolkata and Bengaluru in the coming years. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of creating a "cultural space" for art and architecture across five cities.
A Week of Artistic Delights
The seven-day program kicks off each day with a keynote presentation by an internationally acclaimed artist, architect, or designer. Additionally, an exclusive "graphic novel on architecture" will be launched during the event.
Exploring Diverse Themes and Immersive Experiences
During the IAADB event, they will explore various interesting themes each day. These include "Doors of India," "Gardens of India," "Baolis of India," "Temples of India," "Architectural Wonders of Independent India," "Indigenous Design," and "Women in Architecture and Design."
On the first day, called "Doors of India," they will honor and talk about the special doors and gates with historical importance in India. They will also compare the designs of the Arc De Triomphe in Paris and India Gate in Delhi.
The day focused on "Gardens of India" will involve discussions about the many roles that gardens play in art, mythology, culture, and architecture.
"Temples of India" day will highlight the magnificence of ancient temple architecture and the amazing engineering behind it. It will also explore the architectural heritage created in India after gaining independence.
The other themes will concentrate on preserving old traditions, regional identities, and encouraging eco-friendly architectural practices.
