The commercial building on Hospital Road in Bangalore showcases an avant-garde parametric design, highlighted by a diamond-cut facade adorned with ocean blue glazing and gold beading. Architect Arvind Jain explains, ‘The installation is clad in 3mm porcelain tiles with a steel marine finish, complemented by grey finish tiles, resulting in a contemporary aesthetic.’ Triangular diamond shaped elements contribute to the parametric design, while glazing and PVD-coated gold beading add durability and style. This architecturally refined structure seamlessly integrates materials, utilizing an aluminum substructure for exterior elements. A ‘design cut strategy’ was employed to accommodate the client’s preferences for lighting on the facade. The lower commercial levels on Hospital Road feature artful glass incorporation, providing transparency, a sense of weightlessness, and enhancing the building’s visual appeal and grace.
Why Triangular Elements?
The triangular elements in the building serve as shading tools and sound reducers. ‘By creating air pockets in the walls and facade, these triangles lower the interior temperature by 3 degrees,’ explain the architects, ‘Strategically positioned, they also minimize sound, enhancing overall comfort and acoustics.’ This design approach integrates thermal and acoustic considerations, reflecting a holistic architectural innovation.
