Concrete Finish, White Plastered Walls and Glazed Skylights Compose Framed House in Bangalore | Crest Architects

Bengaluru-based architecture and design studio- Crest Architects designed this modest house that aptly reflects the lifestyle and personality of the client. The firm wanted to create a compact layout that accommodates the requirements of the client while also establishing a sense of spaciousness to create a balance of connectivity and privacy. Located within a gated community in North Bangalore, the square shaped plot of this residence abuts the road on southern and western sides and enjoys views of the encompassing greenery. Further, the firm emphasised on natural light and ventilation in the house. The firm has shared more details with SURFACES REPORTER (SR) about the project. Read on:

Cost-Effective Construction

The design process and choice of materials for construction was influenced by a cost effective budget.

The studio’s approach was to create a compact layout that accommodated the requirements of the client while also establishing a sense of spaciousness to create a balance of connectivity and privacy.

Beautiful Inside Modest Outside

Exposed concrete finish and white plastered walls induce a subtle ambience in both the interior and exterior.

the framed houseThe building form was developed as an abstraction of cubes with planes extracted along different surfaces to produce an exquisite structure.

The open floor plan which consists of a living, dining, kitchen, puja and three bedrooms are spread across two floors.

A semi-open puja adjoining the dinning has been designed with a sense of verticality to enhance the volume of the space. The solid wooden railing wrapped round the central staircase adds a dramatic effect in the interiors.

Ample Natural Light in the House

The double height living and dining spaces are opened up to get a view of the landscaped garden and glazed skylights allow ample natural light to infiltrate the open scheme of the house.

The south –western façade was kept almost entirely plain with narrow slit windows to avoid the harsh sun.

These windows are accentuated with Sadahalli stone chajjas which frames compelling views of the surrounding landscape.

The striking vertical masses harmonize with the surrounding and articulate the function of the house creating geometric elevations.
