In response to an ever-growing demand for a sustainable future, sustainable design practice Highsociety launched its Highlight collection. Crafted from materials such as hemp, wine and tobacco which belong to psychoactive substances, the Highlight collection of pendants are created through a high-pressure moulding process.

The Highlight Hemp Pendant is crafted from industrial hemp leftovers which are cultivated without pesticides at 1,300 m above sea level. The pesticide-free hemp is sourced from the farm which is located next to the studio’s manufacturing lab, thereby eliminating transportation costs and carbon emission. The studio uses Carmagnola hemp – a historic Italian hemp type that had been used to produce oil for the food industry, fibers for clothing and much more – which can grow up to 5 m with strong fibres. While hemp flowers and seeds are used to produce hemp oils, their stalks and leaves are used in making lampshades. The compression of the raw material creates a sleek surface that emits a distinctive hemp aroma.
The Highlight Tobacco pendant lighting is made from leaves and stalks which are thrown away during tobacco cultivation in Italy’s Venetian region.
As for the Highlight Tobacco pendant lighting, it is made from leaves and stalks which are thrown away during tobacco cultivation in Italy’s Venetian region. The surface of each light is characterized by small irregular tobacco pieces.
Made out of the solid remnants of the wine production, pomace is used to make the Highlight wine suspension lighting.
Made out of the solid remnants of the wine production, the pomace is used to make the Highlight wine suspension lighting. The studio had collaborated with a local organic winery Radorar to source the pomace for the collection. Each lampshade in the Highlight Wine collection is unique as natural patterns cannot be repeated. Due to the compression-molding technique, it is possible to preserve the colours and natural scents of these two ranges.
Best suited for home interiors and commercial areas, the Highlight collection is compostable as it takes less than three months to break down, according to the European Standards.
