The pavilion has been designed based on the Saraswati Yantra, which symbolizes the Hindu goddess Saraswati - protector of knowledge, music, art, language, insight and education - according to a statement from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The NID project team was headed by Tanishka Kachru and included Shemal Pandya as exhibition designer, along with Rahi De Roy who served as a student intern.
The Indian representatives participating in the international festival will be under the guidance of the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan. He wore the customary Tamil 'Veshti' while walking down the red carpet.
Four Indian films have been chosen as part of the official selection at the Cannes Film Festival – Kanu Behl’s Agra and Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy, among others.
The India pavilion also features post-production services such as graphics and animation, while also showcasing the contributions of women to cinema.
Last year, India was esteemed with the privilege of being designated 'Country of Honour' at the Marche du Cannes. The 76th Cannes Film Festival will be an opportunity to marvel at a variety of films, taking place from May 16 to 27, 2023.
