Prof. Jayakumar J, born in 1957 in a village near Trivandrum, Kerala, has had a distinguished career in architecture and education. He completed his undergraduate studies in architecture at the Government College of Engineering, Trivandrum, in 1979.

His early career began at ISRO, where he worked from 1980 to 1990, contributing to significant projects. In 1983, he earned a degree from IIT Kharagpur before joining NITC in 1990. At NITC, he played a pivotal role in establishing the architectural department and laying a strong systems foundation. His efforts in digitizing heritage assets for tourism, supported by a fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, GoI, further exemplify his commitment to integrating technology with cultural preservation.
In 2010, Prof. Jayakumar was appointed the founding principal of the College of Architecture Trivandrum (CAT), where he served until 2022. His tenure was marked by his dedication to creating a robust educational framework for the institution. Currently, he serves as the full-time Executive Director of CAT, focusing on developing effective pedagogical strategies to enhance design value and educational impact. Prof. Jayakumar’s career is a testament to his contributions to architecture, education, and cultural heritage, reflecting a deep commitment to advancing both academic and professional fields.
