Lódz Architecture Center is the latest project by famed Ar Daniel Libeskind who is designing this building as a part of Nexus21, an urban revitalization project of 21 structures that will include residential and commercial buildings along with urban space in his hometown of Lódz, Poland. On his birthday, SURFACES REPORTER (SR) presents to you its salient features.
21 Existing Plots
Located in the historical neighbourhood of the city, the project is being undertaken in collaboration with inLodz21 Institution. It aims to promote activities such as architecture, textiles, fashion, and film. The space which is currently occupied by empty spaces and neglected structures, will be revived with the onset of the project and will generate quality investment.

Ar Daniel Libeskind says, “The Nexus21 project aims to create meaningful connections throughout the city by expressing the memory, history and vital energy of the city and people of Lódz. Each project aims to tell a unique story about the extraordinary strength and power of the city and its citizens."
Lódz Architecture Center
Prove to be the new cultural gateway of the city, the Lódz Architecture Center will be the first construction of Nexus21. The building aims to provide exhibition and educational spaces, along with facilities for public events and will connect the neighborhood’s commercial and tourist destinations. The intrinsic geometric form will also include a glazed skylights and a green roof, and will explore the historical and traditional architecture of Lódz, but will be equipped with the state-of-the-art technology.

A Fashion Innovation Center will be built next following the Architecture Center, and will celebrate the rich history and traditions of the Lódz textile and fashion industries. The Center will be a generator for innovation and technology, bringing new creative ideas to this historic industry in Poland. In addition to the fashion center, the House of the Futures will be an innovative and technological community forum that explores questions on 'how we want to live' and 'where the citizens see the future of the City'.

"Cities are the greatest creations of humanity," one of the most famous and controversial architect of 21st century, Daniel Libeskind was Polish-American architect, artist, professor and set designer and the Principal Design Architect of Studio Daniel Libeskined which he set up along with his wife, Nina. The architect behind such high-profile designs as Berlin’s Jewish Museum and New York’s Ground Zero site plan, Libeskind is often criticised for his unconventional and angular works. However, he opines that he is only trying to create a design that tells a story. An acclaimed author, his recently work is published under the name 'Edge of Order'.
