A Celebration of Architecture and Design
In the two-day exhibition organized in the Ahmedabad city also known as the ‘Mecca of Architecture’ started from October 4, 2021. Here 20 of the city’s most well-known architecture firms including BV Doshi’s Vastu Shilpa, Dr Bimal Patel’s HCP, Parulben Zaveri’s Abhikram, Gurjit Matharoo’s Matharoo Associates, Associated Architects by Bhavik Nandi, Vatsal Joshi, Rizwan Kadri and Mayank Ghedia, and Modo Design by Arpan Shah showcased both their completed as well as ongoing projects in and outside Ahmedabad.
Vastu Shilpa Consultants by veteran Architect BV Doshi is one of the most the multi-disciplinary practice founded in 1955. The work of the firm integrates frugal and environmentally responsible strategies to create inclusive habitats for people.Dr Bimal Patel's HCP is a multidisciplinary practice that provides professional services in architectural design, interior design, engineering, urban design, urban planning, communications, project management and construction management.
Established by Ar Parul Zaveri and late Ar Nimish Patel, Abhikram, meaning initiation in Sanskrit, an Architecture, Interiors, Conservation and Planning consultancy firm in 1979. With their observation on on the state of architectural practice then, led us to initiate and explore, design directions and processes, that make the built environment functionally, psychologically, environmentally and spiritually, more contextual and more comfortable.
Started off by Ar Gurjit Singh Matharoo, Matharoo Associates has designed some iconic structures in Ahmedabad and other parts of the country and is known for his experimental sense of design.

Talk sessions for students and aspiring architects were also held alongside the exhibition to impart knowledge to them.
“This is the first attempt as a collective to be on a common platform and create awareness among the general public as to why Ahmedabad is called mecca of architecture in India. Despite being a small community of professionals, architects shape the city,” said IIA Ahmedabad Chapter Chairman Vatsal Joshi.
World Architecture Day has been celebrated on the First Monday of every October Month alongside the UN World Habitat Day. Convened by the International Union of Architects (IUA), the day aims to contribute to the global conversation on the 2030 development agenda by focusing on three key areas: housing, public spaces and their relation to climate change.Text & Image credit: Financial Express
