Leather is a very trendy yet a costly material to have for furniture. It has been around and available for ages and is used for clothing, footwear and furniture. People tend to add leather furniture to their décor in order to make their indoors look luxurious, comfortable and beautiful. But, do they remember to take care of the same?
You see, once installed, leather furniture requires regular care. If you forget to care for them, they tend to form cracks and they even tear up at places. There are different types of leather furniture available in the market today that includes but are not limited to leather sofas, couches, chair seats etc. People also install the back wall of their beds with leather these days.
Mainly because of the way it looks and the trends, leather tends to sell for a higher price than any other indoor furniture you install as this is made out of animal skin. You are required to maintain anything that is naturally made so you might as well maintain leather from time to time, in order to save your furniture and money.
If you are worried on how to clean you leather sofas or leather couches, Surfaces Reporter (SR) is here to rescue and help you. Follow these steps and you’re bound to be good: -
Normal cleaning
You can clean your leather surfaces with a vacuum cleaner or dust frequently with a dry and clean cloth. However, when vacuuming your leather surface, make sure to use a vacuum cleaner that has a brush in it. Not only will it remove dust but also remove any soil particles that are stuck on the surface. Also, while using a damp cloth, make sure to use it with a non-detergent mild soap or liquid leather cleaner that is available in the market or it will shrink your surface and ruin it.
Remove spills and spots
When there’s a spill on your leather surface, remember to clean it with a cloth or sponge immediately and let it air dry. If there is a stain or a spot, use a damp cloth to clean it. While doing so, clean the entire surface from back to seat and chair arm with lukewarm water and let it dry naturally. Never use any heat source like dryer or heater around your leather surface or it will melt and shrink up.
Stay away from butter, oil and grease
Some leather furniture might do well with oils but most will not. Know you leather furniture before cleaning it. If there is a small spot or stain, try cleaning it with professional leather cleaners using a sponge or a dry cloth. If the stain is too big, contact a leather furniture professional. Never use butter, oil or grease on your leather surface or they might end up damaging it, leading to cracks and sticky seats.
Different types of leather require different kinds of cleaning. Make sure to know your surface first and then go cleaning it yourself. Always use non-detergent soaps or leather liquid cleaners to give your surface a long, healthy life. Never use any harsh cloth or dish wash cleaner on your leather surface.
