Bamboo Society of India (BSI), Karnataka Chapter WC- Architecture, Design and Civil Engineering (WC-ADCE, BSI) and World Bamboo Organisation (WBO), along with IIID , Bangalore chapter and ISOLA, Karnataka chapter, on the occasion of World Bamboo Day, is holding 'Bamboo Cultural Fest'. With SURFACES REPORTER (SR) as Media and Telecast partner, the theme for fest is 'Rethinking Bamboo in Culture Through Design'.
Bamboo -The material of Future
Bamboo is one of the most versatile building materials that is not only strong with a tensile strength akin to steel, it is also sustainable which makes it a futuristic building material. Already, many renowned architects like are creating newer designs testing Bamboo to its limit. Therefore, in order to make it a more household name in Indian design scenario, on the occasion of World Bamboo Day, BSI Karnataka Chapter (BSI0-KC), WC-ADCE, BSI and WBO are organising Bamboo Cultural Fest 2021. The virtual celebration will be held on Sept 19, 2021 from 10 AM and will continue till 4:30 PM.
Gracing the occasion will be Chief Guest, Mr. Shankargauda Patil, Special Representative to Delhi, Govt of Karnataka, "Designing with Bamboo is the required tool to provide traction to the bamboo sector to take it to the next level to Redefine Bamboo in our Culture," said Ar. Neelam Manjunath, President BSI, Karnataka Chapter. SURFACES REPORTER has always promoted the use of sustainable building materials and being a media and telecast partner to the event is another step in the same direction.
EVENT SCHEDULE
The events will kickstart at 10:00 AM. The inaugural session will be held by BSI-KC & WC-ADCE and emcee Ar Hemang Mistry, BSI-WC-ADCE. The session will begin with a Welcome Address by Ar Neelam Manjunath, Chairperson BSI, KC & World Bamboo Ambassador, followed by the welcome addresses by the Guest of Honours of the event, Ar Habeeb Khan , President, COA; Dr M P Singh, Director, IWST, Bengaluru; Dr Shakti S Chavan, Director, IPIRTI and Dr Vishnukanth Chatpalli, Vice Chancellor, Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University, Gadag respectively. After that there will be an address by Prof Uday Gadkari, Past President, COA & WC-ADCE, BSI followed by an address by Chief Guest, Mr.Shankar Gouda Patil, Special Representative to Delhi, Government of Karnataka. The session will be wrapped up by Dr Jagadish Vengala, BSI- WC- ADCE.
The first Technical session of the day will commence at at 11:30 PM. The "Product Design Competition session “ for all three sessions chaired by Ar Kavita Shastry and Co-Chaired by Ar Gunjan Das IIID, Bengaluru, Regional Chapter.
There will be a presentation of the shortlisted entries which will take 10 mins each followed by a Jury review for 15 mins.
Second Technical Session at 12:30 PM is the Street Furniture Design Competition chaired and co-chaired by ISOLA, Karnataka Chapter. Here the presentations of 5 winning entries that will take 7-8 mins each followed by a 15 minutes Jury review followed by lunch.
During the Lunch session,
Post lunch, the final Technical Session of the day will commence at 2:15 PM which will be a PreFab Structures Competition Chaired by Ar Siddharth Majumdar & Co- Chaired by Ar Tapasya ,IIA Karnataka Chapter. There will be a presentation of 4 entries followed by a Jury review. The emcee for this half of the day will be Madhurima Chowdhury, Assistant Director, WADe Asia and Executive Editor, Surfaces Reporter.
The concluding sessions of the day will start with a Valedictory address by Neelam Chibbar, Industree Foundation followed by Vertica Dvivedi, Founder, WADe Asia and Editor-in-Chief, SURFACES REPORTER (SR). The next address will be by Prof. Jaisim Krishna Rao immediately followed by the prize distribution to the winners.
The ceremony will be followed by an address by Ar C R Raju, President, IIA; Ar Jabeen Zackaria, President, IIID; Dr Sridevi Rao President, ISOLA and Prof Arunava Dasgupta, Chairperson, IUDI and , Dr Jayshree Deshpande, Director, COA-TRC respectively. The evening will be wrapped up with a Vote of Thanks by Prof Uday Gadkari'
