Shirish Beri- The First CEPT Alum Earns The Highest Honour By IIA | Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal 2022 | SR News Update

Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) conferred its highest honour- the Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal 2022 on Shirish Beri (FA UG ’67), the first alum of CEPT University. Ar Beri received this prestigious award at the National Convention of IIA in Hyderabad on 14 May for his outstanding contributions in the field of architecture. On 14th May, The national body of architects in India- IIA- bestowed its highest architecture award upon its alum Shirish Beri, founder of Shirish Beri and Associates, Kolhapur.

Previously, many renowned names, including B.V. Doshi, Charles Correa, Hasmukh Patel, A.P. Kanwinde, Anant Raje, Raj Rewal, and Laurie Baker were awarded this highly coveted award. 

Ar. Shirish Beri has achieved several national and international awards with the last one being the K. Great Master’s Award 2017 for his contribution to contemporary Indian architecture during the past four decades. He is the 13th recipient of this highly coveted and important award instituted in 1990. 

Only one architect from 11 countries is selected for this award every two years, and it is often considered the highest architectural award in India.

It is also conferred on him for his sincere efforts at addressing his life and environmental concerns through his designs. He has always thought of his architecture as a catalyst for a better quality of life and as an agent of social change. His work has most definitely helped in bringing people closer to nature, to other people and to their own selves. Another recent award, Ar. Shirish Beri won the ARCASIA gold medal 2017 for the best designed single family residence in Asia.

Shirish Beri is not only a phenomenal architect but he is also an amazing painter, poet, philosopher and lover of extensive traveling too. The architect has authored many books, staged exhibitions and also created documentary films to encourage people toward architecture.
