Artist Showcases the Power of Unity through Laser-Cut Metal Installation | Gathering Pavilion

Artist Ling-Li Tseng, in collaboration with Serendipity Studio, has created a captivating installation titled Gathering Pavilion for the 2023 Taipei Lantern Festival. Each module of the Gathering Pavilion is constructed from laser-cut metal with a baked enamel finish. Embedded lights near the base illuminate the structure, creating reflections on the surface. Earlier this year, the installation was displayed in Four South Village, Xinyi District, Taipei City. Viewers were naturally drawn to interact with the artwork, engaging in a visual dialogue with the humanoid geometry or using the modules as frames to catch glimpses of the iconic Taipei 101 skyscraper.

Tseng emphasizes that the involvement of viewers completes the artwork, aligning with the original intention behind the creation of the Gathering Pavilion. The installation evokes a sense of unity and encourages a dynamic connection between the artwork and its audience. The installation forms a space with a flower-shaped opening, inviting viewers to enter and engage with the artwork.

The farming process emphasizes the significance of the bond between land, objects and people, fostering a deep appreciation for relationships and creating a powerful sense of unity. Inspired by this concept of collective effort, the Gathering Pavilion centers around an abstract, monumental curve reminiscent of the human form. Constructed using laser-cut metal, the eight curved modules are intricately stacked, symbolizing individuals coming together in harmony, akin to a collective preparing for farming activities. The Gathering Pavilion serves as a visual representation of people gathering and collaborating, reflecting the cherished values of farmers and the strong cohesive energy they embody.
