Architect Tadao Ando, known for winning the Pritzker Architecture Prize, has created a collection of snake-inspired watches for Bulgari's Serpenti range. Read more on SURFACES REPORTER (SR):
Four timepieces with a stylized serpent form, one for each season, make up the Serpenti Tuboga x Tadao Ando series. The ephemeral element of nature is known to inspire Ando's inventiveness; therefore, the Serpenti collection is a perfect match for his creations.
With faces crafted from materials like aventurine, tiger's eye, and mother of pearl to imitate the hues and textures of each season, each watch in the line reflects a different season.
The 38 diamonds that adorn the bezels of the watches are a stunning touch. Tadao Ando designed and signed the box, and his signature is inscribed on the back of each item.
With this partnership, Ando becomes the most recent Pritzker Architecture Prize-winning architect to design a watch, following in the footsteps of prominent watch designers like Rafael Moneo and Álvaro Siza, as well as Frank Gehry, who made a transparent watch for Louis Vuitton.
