The Tri Hita Karana Tower (THK Tower) is a new hybrid AI art and architecture installation in Bali's Nuanu City, completed by London-based architect Arthur Mamou-Mani and designed by the multimedia company Delivered. Named after the Balinese philosophy of harmony among the divine, people, and nature, it is the first and largest permanent hybrid art-AI installation in the region. Flexible rattan and durable ironwood were used to create its intricate form, ensuring it withstands the harsh oceanic climate.
Sustainable Design and Circularity
Standing at 30 meters high, the rattan and ironwood tower features 108 steps for exploration in Nuanu, Bali's 44-hectare creative hub. Visitors can enjoy playful 360-degree views during the day and a projection mapping show at night. Mamou-Mani highlighted the importance of circularity, with all rattan and ironwood strips reclaimed.
Though a permanent structure, the tower is designed for disassembly and evolution without environmental harm.
A Living Artwork
The rattan will change color over time, turning the tower into "a living, breathing piece of art," with its lines and curves symbolizing Bali's forests and history.
AI-Powered Light Show
At night, the tower will feature an AI-driven light and projection show, developed by Bali and Dubai-based company Delivered. The show, designed to reflect the tower's sustainable message, will use over 1,000 light fixtures, 18 projectors, and a custom sound system. AI artists Pablo Alpe, Ben Helm, Maksim Ha, and Aizek created the digital artwork.
Viewers can interact with the light show via a website, making each display unique. "The evolving algorithm ensures no two shows are the same," said Delivered founders Nastia Human and Alex Mubert. The code reflects the project's focus on circularity and sustainability.
