Located in Buenos Aires, Argentina, The Shire by Atelier Matias Mosquera defines geometry in correlation with orientation. The architect believed that it is geometry that defines orientation. And this is the concept firm carried throughout this project. The clients desired a place connected with nature. SURFACES REPORTER (SR) has covered more about this beautiful project below:

Just like our relationship with our surroundings, which is defined by our orientation, it’s not the same as being in front of something and then staring from a rotated angle. Eventually, it is geometry that defines direction.
As seen like this, it becomes clear that geometry guides the articulation of spaces. That was the foundation of the Shire. The clients’ prerequisites for the project were to develop a space that connected with nature.
Two-step process
The project conceptualization was based on a two-step process. The first one consisted of dividing a linear bar, which accommodated the program.
Subsequently, the practice started flexing said bar until they connected both ends, creating a full circle with no vertices and limits. The parametric geometry allows the firm to find the articulation between spaces and the rest of the land, thus making different situations.
The Amalgamation of Geometry and Nature
The incredible fusion of nature and geometry allows the design team to form a new dimension of a climbing path as an extension of the same geometry. Hence, building a new and innovative space to reside in another level and with stunning vistas

Concurrently, the client wanted to leave the city to adapt to a new lifestyle. Therefore, rather than buying and throwing goods away, the idea of production, consumption, and recycling. As the system would be self-sufficient, there would not be any garbage.
So, the project will produce its electricity, water, heating, and, primarily, food itself.
Ecological Architecture
When architecture starts to blend with its surroundings, it creates innumerable benefits.
Along with several ecological and functional ones, the leading role would belong to nature rather than the structure itself. Another great advantage is that the project merges more with nature, unlike conventional constructions, which only worsen with time.
