Story of Leena Kumar

The pandemic has left national economics struggling, made citizens jobless and of course raised anxiety among ourselves. Believe it or not, the pandemic has altered the way of our work and living in some or other way. And, each one of us has felt that. However, there are individuals around the world who still have managed to survive and grow in this tough pandemic period. SURFACES REPORTER (SR) in association with WADE ASIA invited women in Design to share their inspiring stories from 2020. This is the heartfelt tale of a lady who looks at the challenges of her life as stepping stones to success.

Meet Leena Kumar, the Principal Architect at Kumar Consultants found the pandemic as the great time to learn something new. Though the global pandemic has led to the shutdown of most of the operative machineries of the world

However, for Leena, it has given her time to indulge in personal passions, talents and interests. Even in this devastating period, she managed to learn new software, indulged herself in old hobbies of sketching and painting.

She redefined her way of practice by avoiding all the excess papers and files, primarily used in the business.


 
The Pandemic has made them reinvent ways of communication and discussions, making it easier to learn and exchange ideas.
It also taught them the importance of It also taught them the importance of physical meetings.

Leena learnt how impossible it is to sit in front of the computer screen all day long without human interaction. She had been seeing friends living in apartments being completely frustrated and stuck indoors all the time.

The Good Side of The Pandemic

Good and bad are always 2 sides of the same coin and so, the corona has also brought some positives with it, and Leena cherished every moment of it.

During pandemic, she experienced her city like it used to be- a place calmer, less rushed, more peaceful and giving time to breathe. She had the time to appreciate all those who have been a part of her life, the time to be aware of each day and each night as they flowed seamlessly into each other and hoping the evolution of housing at the same time.

She hoped that the mainstay of architecture would be health, light, air, ventilation, materials, and the conversation would shift from architectural expressions and styles to architectural health.

For the year 2020, even the UN had chosen “Housing For all – a better urban future” as the theme of world habitat day.

So, all in all 2020 has been a year with considerable ups and downs

However, the story of Leena Kumar proves that nothing can restrain you from achieving your goal if you are dedicated enough towards the same. We shouldn't forget that challenges are actually great opportunities to prove ourselves stronger and more valiant.
