Encasa Archstudio Creates A Tropical Architecture Style Abode in Kerala | CAER

Encasa Archstudio revisualised CAER, a house amidst the tranquil and picturesque tropical surroundings by the Chaliyar river in the Mampad, Kerala, as a modern-day fortress. Spread over an area of 3950 square feet, the house embraces nature with modern tropical design features. The façade of this beautiful residence features textures from the rough rubble walls to finely done concrete finishes. Further, the use of both wood and concrete intermediately in the floorings break the monotony. Reused roofing clay tiles, gable windows, inverted and decorative grey ceiling tiles, customized lighting and furniture add on to the raw character of the house. The kerala-based architecture firm has shared more information about the project with SURFACES REPORTER (SR). Take a look:

CAER-Architecture Style Abode in Kerala

Being a site with innate natural beauty, the firm tried to bring up quality spaces bursting out of the lush to retrieve the user's mind from all the chaos around by merging the boundaries of interior and exterior.

CAERThe green spaces introduced in between smoothens the rough impression created by the exposed textures. Named CAER- the project with its impressive façade creates a solid and bold identity.

CAER

The client wanted a house that incorporates maximum human interactive spaces. Intimate spaces within the single-storied home are buffered by a bold concrete wall veiled by the green lush.

CAER

Material Palette

CAER altogether blends with the context with its earthy colour palette brought to life with exposed concrete, wood, rubble wall and the lush green in between.

Reused roofing clay tiles, inverted ceiling tiles, customized lighting and furniture, add on to the raw character of the house.

CAERUsage of automotive paints in the kitchen walls instead of tiling helped maintain the CAER's unique texture palette. The electrical conduits are hidden between the roofing and ceiling tiles, where they act as a false ceiling.

CAER

Maximum Natural Lighting

The firm oriented the house along the north-south direction. The zoning of the kitchen, sit-outs, and living area offer spaces with early sun rays. The interiors are flooded with natural lighting that minimizes the use of artificial lighting.

CAER

Wind and light patterns are manipulated by a stretch of trellis running along the north side (living, dining and kitchen spaces), which lets the cool breeze come inside and stops the entry of harsh sunlight. A series of sloping and flat roofs at varying heights and the roofline vents add to this.

CAER

Inner courtyards are provided within the toilets with indirect rooftop ventilation, which helps to maintain the aesthetics.

CAER

The bold yet simple, pivoted main door and the sliding door of bedrooms stand out in the whole design.

CAER showcases its unique statement of tropical architecture style in the rural context of Nilambur, evoking the feel of newness and rawness.
