Located atop a small hill in Kerala, this 12000 sq. ft. courtyard home could not look more typically traditional; from the outside. Step through the door, however, and the interior is an elegant mix of global influences and reclaimed pieces selected to work in harmony with the traditional architecture. Redesigned by Meera Pyarelal - Founder & Interior Designer of Temple Town, this property has been turned into a sanctuary holding fast to the core principles of promoting local and sustainable interiors. The design team has shared more details of this beautiful project with SURFACES REPORTER (SR). Take a look:

“Our client wanted her home to have a sense of calm and to be a place she could wind down when she returns from her travels. At the same time, she wanted a sociable space, where she could welcome guests in a relaxed atmosphere. She was looking for a minimalist scheme that would look modern, fresh, and feel relaxin” shares Meera.
Relaxing Haven
This home combines functionality with clean lines whilst also having a sanctuary-like feel.
The courtyard connects all the main action zones, the living, dining, foyer, and bedrooms, giving definition to the space whilst retaining those open views. The abode beautifully blends with nature.
Hues Reflecting Peacefulness
The palette used is delicate greys, beiges, browns, and greens to lighten the space and not detract from the natural beauty.
In the family living, the artwork is called the' balancing act' by Ameen. These are framed fabrics from the yugantar collection pure concept.
For the living room, the design team chose only a few key shades picked from the surroundings.

Splendid Dining Area
In the dining room, the marble table top adds a tactile element to a pared-back scheme and a simple customized iron pendant light complements the natural look.
The dinner plate setting is Wedgewood
A collection of mismatched white porcelain crockery with violet and white flowers of “Daisy Chrysanthemum” creates a simultaneously understated and dramatic interior.
Bedrooms Adorned With Alluring Accessories
In each bedroom, the neutral palette of wooden flooring and white walls is offset with charming accessories.
The firm used a restrained palette of materials and colors, glass and crisp white to create visual unity throughout the home.
In the master bedroom, the art is green batik prints on handmade paper from Pondicherry.
“We are all about encouraging reuse, so we help people to recognize what fabulous items they already own and yet create interiors that work well functionally and are always tranquil and welcoming,” she concludes.

About the Designer
Everyone thought medicine would be the obvious career choice for Meera Pyarelal, the daughter of a Padma Shri award-winning surgeon; however, destiny had other plans for her. Armed with a Masters in English literature, she discovered her love for interiors while doing up her own apartment way back in 1999. She decided to give it a try and set up a small unit in her husband’s garage 20 years ago, giving wings to her creative side. After two decades of earning a name for herself in the interiors industry, she conceived her own brand — Temple Town — with the aim of designing and manufacturing sophisticated pieces of colonial furniture.
