CP Kukreja Architects along with London-based Crab Studio reveals the design for the upcoming BRIJ, which will be the new cultural centre for Serendipity Arts Foundation in New Delhi, India. Situated on a former quartzite quarry, BRIJ caters to visual, performing, literary, and culinary arts, featuring a new arts academy.
Elegant Curved 'Vessels' and Waffle Grid
Central to the design, six gracefully curved 'vessels' hover above a waffle grid, inspired by India's Charbagh gardens.
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these architectural elements strategically organize the site's topography, providing sheltered pathways adaptable to different weather conditions.
Complementing this, a fully conditioned underground passage guarantees seamless access to all areas of the site.
Weather-Adaptable Design
The grid strategically organizes the site's topography and circulation layers, providing sheltered routes for varying weather conditions.
A fully conditioned underground passage ensures accessibility to all parts of the site regardless of weather conditions.
Internal Functionality
Internally, the vessels host offices, residential facilities, galleries, teaching spaces, a library, museum, and theatre auditorium. The thoughtfully mixed functional distribution encourages the cross-pollination of ideas. Downstairs, there are workshops and artisanal villages where visitors can see how things are made in different ways.
BRIJ Cultural Center emerges as a dynamic space addressing cultural needs and engaging a diverse audience in New Delhi.
